Street Cafe

The street café was launched from the front garden of St Edmunds Church by a bus stop. We aimed to get passers by, travellers on busses and neighbours chatting to each other over a cuppa and light refreshments all provided for free. When we started in November, the cold weather was just setting in and people walking past were bemused about what we were doing. Three months later, we had managed to get regular ‘customers’ from local shops and resident families and gathered information about what residents felt could make the street feel safer and friendlier.

Bloom in Halleywell

Over the years we have worked in this area running different action projects led by young people to bring the residents together as a community. We teamed up with the Wildlife Trust and Southern Housing to bring people together, learn about the natural world around us and share in the community spirit. Every week singing tutors sat on the green and were joined by people of all ages to belt out some tunes. Current songs as well as the old classics flowed in the Hallywell air. Young people led other young people and children in fun games and with cameras, the young people learnt the art of photography. Capturing the precious moments each week they were given a different theme.

Act in Beckton

With the support of the local community we were able to run the Act in Beckton project to improve the garden facilities at the local youth centre. The kids started out by clearing away debris and bushes. They then planted fresh flowers and grass, built furniture and a patio, before bringing it all together to create a new garden paradise. When it was all finished the young people of the Beckton Globe invited the community in for a large weekend BBQ full of food, music, and conversation. The weekend BBQ’s became a regular fixture of the Beckton summer calendar with all members of the community coming in to enjoy the atmosphere.

European Training and Exchanges

Over the past 8 years we have helped over 300 young people travel internationally for training and youth exchange trips. With partners across the EU, we have helped over 600 European young people participate and share knowledge with other young people from across the continent. This includes organising and hosting 5 youth exchanges in the UK and multiple training courses. Each one helps brings new talents, knowledge, and expertise that goes directly into the local communities we work with each work. Every opportunity to travel can provide a young person with new dreams and confidence and we want to continue to support that.
